BIO:

Ah what can we tell you about George that would make you want to adopt him? George came from a MO puppymill where he was held prisoner for 8+ yrs of his life. The first time he got to walk on grass was an amazing thing to see. He just kept walking and walking in the grass almost as if he couldn’t get enough of the feel of the soft grass beneath his feet. Even now after having been out of the puppymill he’ll go out and walk and walk in the grass and smelling all he can.

George does very well at going potty outside if you keep him on a schedule, he’ll follow you outside and do his business or follow the other dogs out. He is completely crate trained or trained in a small enclosed area of your home if you have to go out for a time. George is not one to want to get on the furniture but would rather have a nice soft doggie bed to lay down his head, he’ll even cuddle with another dog if the bed is big enough.  George also rides great in a car. George is not a barker and would be fine with another dog or by himself.

George also had to have a lot of his teeth pulled because of the lack of dental care while he was in the puppymill and will need to be on soft food for the rest of his life but that doesn’t stop him from loving food. In his foster home we take the hard food and soften it to his condition and he’s just as happy as a clam.

If you are looking for a low key dog to fill your home then George would be it, he is not pushy but just happy to final have a home a real home with no wire surroundings and most important a family that will love him!

If you can give him a home like that please fill out an application or if you need more info please contact his foster mom.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

More about George #3..PA

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
