BIO:  Hi this is Amelia, she came from a puppymill in MO where she was given up when she killed her puppies. She was of no use to them so they let rescue have her. When she came to us she was a scared little girl(8lbs and will get no bigger) but now she’s happy go lucky. She loves to play with the puppy we have here and loves to run in the yard keeping up with the other dogs.

She has no yet gotten the idea that she is to go outside to potty but with a break in the weather we are hoping to spend more time with her outside and she “gets it”.

We have not started to work with her to teach her to walk on a leash yet but one thing at a time and potty is more important.

She is still leery of the man of the house but knows that he holds the key to feeding her as well.

Our wish for her is to have a fenced in yard, another younger dog for her to continue to learn from and play with. If you have these things than she may be the dog for you. Please apply you won’t be sorry with this sweet girl.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Amelia...MD

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
