BIO:

Bart is a very loving and playful dachshund.  He loves to sleep late and take naps throughout the day.  His favorite place to sleep is on a couch or in a chair under a blanket.  However, he also has a very high level of energy.  He loves to go on long walks and will even run if you let him.  He loves for someone to throw a chew toy and he will fetch it.  He isn't very good about bringing it back to you.  If you are willing to go and get the toy, throw it again and he will run after it. Bart doesn't bark a lot or whine.  He may take a couple of days to warm up to you and back away if you try and pick him up.  However, give him a couple of days and he will be sitting right beside you or in your lap.  He is also very curious and will poke his nose into anything that he can get to.  He is not destructive.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
