Hello folks, my name is Dapple.  I guess you can see from my pictures that I am a chocolate dapple dachshund.  I have the trademark long body and floppy ears to prove it.  I am a young fellow but not as busy as most dogs my age, in fact, I am quite laid back.  I am somewhat of a Velcro doggie in that I want to be with my human at all times.  I will follow you from room to room and lay beside you or at you feet if you take a seat.  I would love to have a family with a stay at home mom or dad since I love to spend time together and just lay around and watch my human during the day.  I don't really like to be crated and prefer to sleep in a nice comfy bed beside yours of if you will allow me to or I would love to sleep in the big bed with you.  I think I would make a great companion for an older couple since I am looking for someone to spend lots of time with.  If you are a busy person who is gone from home most of the day I am probably not the best choice for you.  I certainly want my new relationship to be mutually satisfying and I do not like to be at home alone! Please remember this if you decide to apply to adopt me... I am not quite sure why but my previous family did not work with me much to help me be self sufficient so I am a little needy when it comes to spending time with you.  Actually I am a quite touchy-feely kind of boy!  I do get along with other dogs and if you have one that is nice and would like to have me as a brother that would be just great!  I am easy to get along with and like other dogs just fine.  Just remember my humane is number one though! If you are looking for a handsome guy with beautiful golden eyes to snuggle and give love to, I might be just the right dachshund to fulfill your needs! AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
