BIO:  Hi I’m Dixie and I came from a shelter where my owners dumped me when they could not care for my eye which had been injured and I was in pain for a long time. I’ve had my eye removed now by a good Dr. and I’m thriving in my foster home.

I will do well in a home where I can be the queen of the house and someone is home most of the time or at least another pet to keep me company while you are gone. I like to be with you as much as I can and will follow you from room to room.

She has very few accidents in the house and only then if she can't get out to go, will sleep in the big bed and sleep all night long.

Her eye has healed very well and she doesn't even know she is specal needs due to the eye not being there. She is on vitimins to help her skin but that is only till the vitimins are gone and the skin is looking better.

Please fill out an app if you are interested in Dixie 5.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of  CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

More about Dixie 5...TN

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
