BIO:
Snoopy is a sturdy little guy with a beautiful dark red coat.  He gets along well with the other dachshunds and dachshund mixes in his foster home, male and female, young and old.  He is happy to share toys with other dogs and curls up with them when they are done playing.  He has met a few bigger dogs and once they got to sniff each other they played happily together.  Snoopy is a young fellow, so needs to have some activity in his life.  Long walks, a fenced yard, or frequent trips to a dog park will help him use up some of his youthful energy.  He walks nicely on a leash and enjoys going for walks around the neighborhood.  Snoop is not a clingy dog, but will come running when he hears something going on in the kitchen and will sit in a lap for a little while before he wanders off to a dog bed or warm spot in the sun.  He sits and waits patiently for his food bowl to be set down andtrots right into his crate at bedtime where he sleeps quietly all night.  I'm sure he would be happy to sleep with his people too.  When nobody is home during the day Snoopy stays in a confined area and does fine.  He appears to be housebroken as long as he goes out first thing in the morning, as soon as I get home, and before bedtime.  He will come and pester me if he needs to go out at other times.
Snoopy would do best with older children who understand that they need to be gentle with a small dog and that he will sometimes need his own space.  He was with a cat in his previous home and was playful, but not aggressive toward his cat friend, so would do fine with a cat that has been around dogs before.  He enjoys the company of his canine housemates, so would probably be happiest with other dogs in the house.
If you are looking for a handsome southern gentleman to add to your family, Snoopy is the guy for you!

More about Snoopy...FL

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
