BIO:

Ms. Cindy or Cindy Lou, depending on how formal you want to be with her is an absolute doll.  This little angel was a stray that was found wandering around in a neighborhood and enjoying the attention that she was getting.  A Good Samaritan took her in and decided to see if she was someone’s baby.  After taking her to the local vet to see if she was chipped, sadly it was found out that she was not and had probably gotten out and did what dachshunds' do, go out and explore the big world.

She was obviously taken care off since she was good healthy weight and her coat was in great shape.  Once she came to us the first order of business was to get her to the vet and make sure she was in good shape.  After a spa day at the vet (Cindy will tell you trauma) she was all set with fresh and clean toothers, freshly trimmed nails, and full vaccinated she was ready to make her appearance as someone’s future best friend.

Cindy is an absolute joy and doll to be around.  She is very content to sleep next to you as you settle down for the evening or if you are just taking time to relax during the day.  She has the cutest way of getting your attention.  If she feels she is not being noticed enough she will lie on her side and wave her paw at you letting you know that it’s time for an ear or belly rub.  If you don’t respond quick enough she may let out a little whimper or low bark to make sure you know she is there.

In the morning she does super on her leash and approaches walkies with an enthusiasm that makes you wish you could greet everything with that much energy.  She will immediately take care of her #1 business and then move to take care of her #2 business.  Then, if you are up for it, time to take a walk around the area.

We feed her once a day in the morning and while she does well around her foster brother, we feed them in a separate area just avoid any misunderstandings about whose bowl is who’s.  Once she finishes up breakfast it’s off to snuggle into the blankets on the big bed or up to her favorite chair to observe the world out the windows.  At night she sleeps in the big bed with us and a snuggle worm that barely will move at night unless it gets to warm and she needs to “snorkel” out of the covers.

During walks she will bark at kitties and let them know that a doxie is in the area.  We don’t have any cats so I am not sure as to how she would do in a home with one.  She gets along really well with her foster brother and has shown not an ounce of aggression towards him.  When we have had folks over to visit she feels the need to sniff their legs and then allow them the privilege to pet her and see what a refined little lady she is.

Cindy is a real princess that wants to give someone all the love that they can stand and be loyal beyond anything you have had up to that point.  This special lady deserves the chances to have a forever home that is going to treat her like the little princess that she is.  In return, you get a best friend that will help you see the sweet heart that Ms. Cindy really is.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
