BEING FOSTERED IN NC.....
Scooter is a real character – wide open and fun-loving. He was found wandering the streets for about a month and was turned in by someone who was afraid he was going to be hit by a car. He loves attention and is very affectionate and sweet. He didn’t know any commands when he first arrived, but quickly learned what the word “no” means. Little by little, he’s learning, and we’re also working on getting him housebroken. He does go outdoors, but still goes indoors at times as well so will need to be kept on a schedule.
Scooter loves to play with doggie toys, chewing on pork or beef hooves, and loves wrestling with other dogs. We’re not sure about cats, but our guess is that he would probably chase them – not to hurt them, but to play with them. You do have to watch him when you open a door, as he will bolt out the door before you know it. But, when he learns his commands better, that probably won’t be a problem.
Scooter loves both men and women and loves to snuggle with them. He’s very free with his doggie kisses, too. He’s an outgoing, friendly little guy. Since he’s used to roaming the neighborhood, he likes being outdoors in a fenced-in area, but he’d rather be wherever his human is. He’s very sociable and comical at times. He’s a real cutie.
Scooter needs a forever home with someone who can be very firm with him – a typical doxie owner. He will make someone a wonderful forever friend.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
