BIO
:
Knox is the sweetest little fellow.  He was found as a stray and has charmed everyone he meets.  Even the vet and her staff were impressed by his great personality.  Knox's teeth were in terrible condition and when he had his dental cleaning, 34 had to be pulled.  The remaining 6 are now shiny white.  He has no trouble eating dry dog food, I just add a little water to soften it up and he gobbles it right down.  He takes his treats and flips them to the back of his mouth where the teeth are and chomps them down too.  He is in excellent health.
Knox loves to sit in a lap or be carried.  He loves walks and prances confidently along on his leash.  He enjoys playing and relaxing with the other dachshunds and dachshund mixes in the house and gets along with them all, young and old.  He does fine with larger dogs too.  He tries to chase cats when he sees them outside on walks, but inside he seems to be intimidated by them and leaves them alone.  The 2 old house cats he met were bigger than him!  Knox often sleeps with another foster dog in a dog bed, but also likes to sleep in the big bed.  He curls into a little ball and snoozes quietly until morning.  Knox enjoys being with other dogs, but would be fine as an only dog too.  He likes children when we meet them in the neighborhood and would do best in a home with older children who understand that they must be gentle with a small dog.
Knox can be a little barky when he is excited by a visitor or impending walk and sometimes when he is first left alone.  He quiets down quickly, but would probably not be a good choice for an apartment dweller.  He has not spent much time crated and does bark in the crate.  He would probably learn to be quiet when crated, but he is such a little gentleman that I just let him stay free in several rooms of the house when nobody is home.  He always runs excitedly to greet me at the door.
If you are looking for a handsome little guy to brightened up you life, Knox is the perfect choice!

We will not adopt into the state of  CT or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures. We are working hard to get approved to bring dogs into the state of NH and until that happens we can not adopt to anyone in that state either.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
