BIO:
Meet Peepers! Peepers came from a puppy mill in MO. When I first brought him home to foster he was so scared! He got along instantly with my dogs but was terrified of me. I gated him in the living room where he hid under the ottoman for security. He was emaciated and since has gained weight and looks so much more filled out! He is very shy but curious and eager to learn. He loves to hang out with the dogs and play with dog toys for the first time! Peepers is finally feeling more secure with me and is now hanging out on the couch with the other dogs and letting me pat him. Peepers is terrified if the leash, he’s never been on one before. He will need to work on his leash skills. Peepers is working on his potty training and when he is out of his crate he will go on a wee wee pad. Peepers is so sweet and gentle, yet curious and playful. He’s learning how to be a pet and he is a happy one at that! He would love to be adopted to a home that has at least one other dog to play with. Peepers has learned so much from my dogs behaviors and has come so far in such a short time, another dog for Peepers to play with would be very beneficial. Peepers will need a home with patience and understanding that he knows nothing more than a crate and to be used to make money. He’s never known love and compassion. I’m so proud of how brave Peepers has been, everything is a new experience for him and he’s done so good! He would love a nice fenced in yard to play in! Maybe someday he will learn to love dog beds, but for now he enjoys his crate for security. If you are interested in adopting Peepers, please fill out an adoption application for him today! He is being fostered in NH. Please email his foster Jillian, sanbornnc@live.com. Thank you!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
