BEING FOSTERED IN MIDDLE TN.......

Hello everyone! My name is a Cricket and my foster mom says that I am a very special 3 year old girl. She calls me and my sister Raisin, Katrina dogs, even though my troubles began 2 years after the storm. I lived with a lady and her children who asked a church member to keep us for a few months while she made repairs to her house. This kind church member took us in and kept us for months. She helped us lose some of the weight that we have to lose ( I know, I know we need to lose more) because our bellies were nearly dragging the ground. She helped us with our manners and housebreaking and even fed us better food as we weren't on a very good diet. Then, guess what? Our mom called back and said that her daughters didn't miss us so she didn't want us anymore! She was abandoning us! Can you believe that? She said she would come pick us up and take us to the shelter because we had "lived a good life." My new mom was horrified and said that she would keep us. We lived with her until she was told by FEMA that she had to move out of her FEMA mobile home. Our new mom luckily found a rental but it didn't allow dogs so she knew that she had to find a place for us. Lucky for us she didn't throw us away. She contacted rescue to see if they could take us. They could!
We are very good girls but seem to have a few accidents when we are moved to a new place. We will go to the door to let you know that we need to go out but we don't vocalize that yet. If you don't see us to let us out we will go right next to the door. When I am hungry I will talk to you to let you know that I want to eat. I like to bark at unfamiliar sounds and I insist on barking at the cat at my foster mom's house. I sleep with my sister Cricket in my crate and I don't like to be picked up very much. I do love to be petted and rubbed. I weigh 20 pounds and need to lose several more before my girlish figure returns. I am heartworm negative and will be spayed before I go to my new home. I would like to go to my new home with Raisin as we have been together forever and we love each other but if that cannot happen then I would really like to have another dog to play with.
Because I don't like to be picked up very much and seem startled by it my mom says that I would do best in a home with no young children under 10 or 11.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
