BIO:

Kiefer was rescued from a puppy mill in Missouri and saved from the life of a breeder. Thankfully, he is now learning to live as a spoiled rotten lap dog! He would LOVE forever home that will continue his transition to his new life as a pet. You will NOT find dachshund that is more handsome or beautifully built!!! He has loooonng soft ears and the softest coat ever--just made for ear and belly rubs! His brindle coat is both unusual and stunning--sure to turn heads!  He is a bit of a teenager is terms of size and may fill out a bit more, but shouldn't gain more than a pound or two as he ages. Kiefer has a gentle, submissive temperament and would do well with a companion --even a dominate personality is compatible with Kiefer. He is gaining confidence every day and we see him in the yard prancing around with his foster siblings and has learned that playing in the yard is FUN!

Kiefer will need time and patience to learn the joys of being a pet, but is won over easily. Treats, a soft voice, unconditional love and patience are the ingredients to ensure that Kiefer grows up to be a well adjusted boy. Kiefer will need patience with housetraining to continue learning that pottying outside is a good thing and earns praises and treats from mom, too! Kiefer is crated during the night and while mom is away during the day and enjoys the company of a Vida (also ready for a forever family) as a crate mate. A home with no children or older children that know to take it slow and let him adjust on his own terms would be best. Kiefer would also like a buddy (bossy females are OK!) to show him the ropes and a fenced yard would make him a very happy boy!

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
