Update:
Riggins is doing really well in his foster home. He loves taking walks around the neighborhood. Riggs is very interested in cats we see on our walks, but when he is inside with them he just ignores them. He is well housebroken and very friendly with new people. He is a delight to have around.
Riggins is a handsome light red fellow with excellent manners. He is housebroken and walks nicely on a leash. He loves to be outside so he needs a fenced yard or frequent trips to a dog park. He gets along well with other friendly dogs. He has not been around cats. Riggs likes to play, but settles down quickly and enjoys a chew toy or quiet nap in his bed. He would do best in an adult household or with older children who understand that he should not be harassed or over excited when playing. He likes to sit in a lap and watch tv or check e-mail. At night he sleeps in the big bed or in his own bed. Because of his excellent manners, Riggins has not spent any time crated. He does go into an open crate for a nap occasionally. He likes both men and women. If you are looking for a friendly handsome pal to talk for walks and hang out with, Riggins is the boy for you.
More about Riggins...MA
Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
