BIO

Are you looking for the convenience, cleanliness, and “cuddleability” of a small dog, but yet desire the fun activity of a big dog?  Well, in Lola you have the best of both worlds! She loves to cuddle and hug, however, she is good for a romp or a 2-5 mile/30 minute-90 minute hike. While Lola only needs 2 miles of exercise per day, I like to walk 3.5 miles per day. She happily trots along and then takes a nice long nap when we arrive home. Lola likes to play with my 3 year male dachshund. She is not too sure what you do with toys, but she is learning how to have a good time with balls. Also, please know that Lola is content to sit quietly and rest while I am working at my desk for several hours at a time.

Lola went to doggie daycare last Thursday where she had a very good time playing with dogs of all shapes & sizes. I have taken Lola to several places, parks, a restaurant (they had an area outside to eat with one’s dogs), and a recreation area where she had great fun meeting strangers and being friendly. As one woman said last Sunday, “I have never met such a friendly dachshund!” I have yet to encounter a person Lola is afraid of—male or female, adult, or child. I am taking her to a water park this week to test her where lots of chaotic kids play…will let you know how she does.  Lola seems to adapt easily to any given situation, although she does like a hug when she is frightened by a loud noise.

She is a very quiet dog. In fact, I have only heard her bark at a squirrel and a duck. She play growls with my dog when they chase each other. Lola is very trainable. In the one week that I have fostered her she has learned “come”, “stay”, “stop”, “go”, “down”, “potty outside”, “hey!” and “good girl!”.

Lola is fully crate trained. She sleeps in her crate all night with no need for potty breaks until morning.

Lola is a GORGEOUS!!! Her brindle marking is very distinct. She has nice long legs, so her back is well supported.

We have now been approved to adopt and transport into the state of Massachusetts but there are guidelines the organization and adopters must follow. If adopting and before filling out the adoption form please e mail aadrpresident@gmail.com to get the guidelines and expenses that must be followed.

More about Lola...PA

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
