Meet Hershey. He’s an outgoing little puppy that is ready for an active home. He is a little more cautious than his brother, Caramel, and makes sure the crowd is friendly before he jumps in. Hershey is doing well on house training and sleeps quietly with his brother, Caramel, in a crate at night and while mom’s away. He loves his foster dad and loves to snuggle with him is a little more laid back than his brother. He is a work in progress and will require a family that is willing to teach him manners, boundaries, and be consistent with housetraining manners. Attending “kindergarten” classes where he learns to play well with others and basic commands is a good idea, too!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
