Kendal was rescued from a high kill shelter in the California desert with his playmate Cooper.  He weighed just over 6 lbs when he entered the shelter.  His prime weight should be around 15 – 18 lbs and he is gradually getting there.

Kendal is lovable, very quiet, will give you a kiss once in a while, huggable and very soft  His coat is black and tan and he has the longest nose I have ever seen on a Dashi.

Kendal is house trained, crate trained, leash trained, not food aggressive (but gulps), knows how to use the doggie door and the doggie steps up and down from the bed.  He is slowly turning into a lover who wants to be in our lap some (not all) of the time.  It has taken a while to gain Kendal’s trust but he has made remarkable progress from wanting to be in the crate 24/7 to coming out and observing from a far too now enjoying some lap time. He has started to follow me around the house and in the yard but is still guarded when it comes to picking him up and giving him a hug. He would rather be the one to jump in your lap rather than me be the one to pick him up.  He sometimes naps with one of our smaller dogs and snuggles right up to him as if to protect him. There is not an aggressive bone in Kendal’s body. I have never heard him growl and he only barks when his friend Kendal barks but not very often.

Please contact me for further information on Kendal.  I would love to share his warmth (personality) and our experiences with you.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
