Chigger came from a MO puppymill where it was take her or we shoot her. We took her to give her the life all dogs should live. She is a sweet sweet girl. When she first came to us we would have to corner her to pick her up but the longer she was here she began to realize we meant her no harm and humans give love and food. She may be scared when she first goes into a new situation but the more people she meets the better she’ll be.

She did lose quite a bit of teeth when she came in and we did a dental on her but we  know that in time she’ll be able to chew hard food she just needs to have time for her gums to heal.

Chigger is getting comfortable enough that she likes to sleep next to her foster mom on the couch and she loves to be petted.

We know she’d be fine with a home with older kids 12 yrs and up that understand that she needs time to get used to all the sights and sounds of the new world but she is aggressive to no one. Chigger just wants to be loved and held.

She is completely crate-trained and would do well while your at work in a crate. She’s not a barker but we think that for her to continue to learn to be a pet that a home with another dog would be best for her and a fenced in yard too for her to wander in.

If you have more questions about Chigger please contact her foster mom for more details.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
