BIO:
I have to say that Sammy is a very precious little boy. He loves to be held and cuddled and will give you the most adoring looks! He rides well in the car and he is great with other dogs. He walks very well on a leash and likes to go for walks when it is warm outside. Sammy will chase the cat but is not aggressive toward them. His current foster home does have a cat. He just seems to want to play but it may be best if he goes to a home without cats. He has a strong hunting instinct when outdoors and loves to look for small critters in the yard but is calm as can be when he is inside the house. He is not a bad barker and is fine with children and would be fine in a home with children that are old enough to understand how to treat him respectfully and give him gentle affection. Sammy is just an all around great dog. I can not say enough good things about this little boy. He is so deserving of a loving home and will make his new family so happy.
More about Sammy...NY
Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
