BIO:  Rosie came from a shelter in East TN, turned in cause they said they couldn’t housetrain her. This is not true. First they probably didn’t understand the breed and secondly if you take her outside and let her run the yard on a schedule she is beautifully housetrained. She knows what the outside is for. She loves just loves to run like the wind in the fenced in yard. It’s great to see her run just for the joy of it.  She does great not running into anything unless she’s going full speed and doesn’t sense it before she it’s it but that doesn’t stop her she just turns and runs in the other direction. She has even learned to play with the other dogs outside in the fenced in yard.

Rosie doesn’t know she’s blind and isn’t bothered by it and the person that adopts her should not be either. She has learned our house very quickly and will follow the sound of your voice if you call her. She will however turn in tight circles if she’s looking for you, stressed out or is confused. This is usually the sign of a dog that was raised in a crate her whole life and yes sadly Rosie had puppies at some time but no more. She’s still learning and that process will take months to a year for her to realize she’s a pet.

Rosie does very well sleeping in the big bed and will cuddle right along with the other dogs or next to you, she would also be find if you had a doggie bed next to your bed. Did I say how much Rosie wants and loves to be with her people? To Rosie you are the world and that’s all she needs. We do think she would do better with another well adjusted dog so she can learn from them. We crate her when we are gone and she does fine but she’s very happy when you get home and will turn tight circles. We only hope in time she’ll do that less and less and we do think we see an improvement in her. She loves being in her foster dad’s lap as well as the foster mom.

We don’t know about cats we think ok but can’t be sure as there are no cats here.

Older kids would be find 12 and up but we think a quieter home would be better less stress for Rosie. Someday she’s going to be a wonderful pet she just needs to learn that being a puppymill dog and living in a crate are a thing of the past and that’s where rescue and YOU come in, we can start the process you are the one that finishes it. She’s young, healthy with no fear issues, she’ll be a breeze to show her the world.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

More about ROSIE...TN

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
