Georgia is a fun loving and joyful pup. She’s extremely smart and wants to understand what humans are saying to her (she tilts her head slightly when you’re talking to her as if to say ‘Run that by me one more time in dog speak will you?’ She loves to lay with you (she sleeps with my eight year-old daughter) and just be wherever you are. She’s also fine just hanging on the sofa while you’re going about your business. She LOVES to play with the other pups. She’s very confident in a good way and so comical as you watch her thinking through her next move when she’s playing. She barks at appropriate times (people at the door, deer in the back yard trying to get over the fence). She loves my kids (14 and 8 yrs), has never even alluded to a nip or growl at them. She likes her toys and carries them with her in and out of the dog door. She also has this funny little side move and paw swipe when she wants to play. Georgia is also a ‘southern girl’ because she lifts her right paw/leg before she pounces (as you can see in one of the pictures. She’s super fast when she runs too. The other puppies/dogs can hardly keep up. She’s a book waiting to be written.
Georgia was left in an overnight drop-off box in Florence, Alabama and therefore we have no information about her birth parents, birth date nor living conditions prior to rescue by AADR.
Georgia will pick up training very quickly. She’s super bright and gives you her full attention. She wants to please and acknowledges the humans are to be respected and are the leaders.
Georgia would love to have full time playmates because she loves to play yet she’ll be fine as an ‘only child’ as long as she isn’t left alone for long periods (over 4 hours) and has a playful human(s).

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
