BIO: Meet Lacey –
She was turned into a shelter in East TN. She was dumped there because “she bit a child”. We simply DO NOT BELIEVE IT!!! Lacey is a very affectionate little girl to anyone & everyone. She doesn’t know a stranger. We believe she was bred & bred until she couldn’t be bred anymore & then she was dumped. On Lacey’s first day at her foster home she was a little shy & scared. We left her in her crate & allowed her to come out on her own. Once she came out and realized she was in a safe place she was just fine (by day 2 she thought she was right at home). She is currently in a foster home with 3 young children & has shown NO signs of ANY aggression toward them or nervousness around them. So as long as Lacey is in a home with respectful children she will be just fine.
She is COMPLETELY house broken to a doggie door and has not had any accidents in the house. If you do not have a doggie door she may need a few days to adjust until you both learn each others signals.
Lacey is the QUEEN of snuggle time!!! Give her a lap & she will sleep for days!!
Lacey is just fine with cats as you can see in one of her pictures. Her tail NEVER stops wagging and our cat thinks Lacey was brought to our home just for her to chase her tail. Lacey is such a good sport about it. She never gets upset. Just lays there.
Lacey does not like to be in a crate. She will bark and bark if left in a crate & not able to see you. However when left in our utility room with her foster brothers & sisters while her foster parents are at work, she is just fine. We think that Lacey would excel in a forever home with at least one other fur companion.
We think that Lacey is either a poorly bred dachshund or a mix between a dachshund & a Chihuahua. Since we are not sure we are listing her as a mix.
More about Lacey...TN
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
