BIO

Cupcake is full of joy and just loves to be cuddled.  Like any puppy she loves to play and explore.   She’s gentle, likes to eat slowly (at least slower than our other dogs) and does the cutest little pounce when she wants to play.  It’s hilarious to watch Cupcake take her toys out of the toy box and blankets out of her crate and bring them outside on a sunny day so she can watch the squirrels and the birds and have a little fun.  Cupcake loves to be kissed and snuggled yet won’t lick your face (we teach the dogs not to do this as a safety precaution for children).  Cupcake hates moles and will hunt them down, so if you have a mole problem, then Cupcake is your greatest defense.  She’s an appropriate barker (doesn’t yap or nuisance bark).  She barks when people approach the yard and if some other dog takes her toy.  The girl likes her toys.  She looks great in dress up clothes (ask my daughter) and can wear a variety of colors with her blonde hair.  She’s just an all around joy to have around. She’s low maintenance.

Cupcake uses the dog door and is crate trained.  She is working on some basic commands like sitting and given the release command before eating.  We’re also teaching her to sit and come.  She is very bright and will train quickly if given consistent training and positive reinforcement.

Cupcake is most comfortable with older dogs to help guide her way to adulthood.  She’ll thrive in an environment with at least one other dog who is alpha.  A fenced yard or fenced dog park for exercise is a must.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
