Being fostered in AL

FESTUS2 came to us from Shelby County Humane in Columbiana, AL where he was surrendered along with his sister, PEBBLES. PEBBLES has already found her forever home, so now its FESTUS2’S turn. FESTUS2 came to us with a skin infection but that has since been cleared up and he's ready to go to his new forever home. Unfortunately, his hair is a little thin in some spots and he’s as slick as a baby’s bottom on his chest and belly! FESTUS2 loves to sleep in the big bed or is just as happy to sleep on the couch under a blanket. He loves to give kisses and snuggle with his human family. We think he would be great with older kids, 10 and up. He loves to bark whenever someone comes around the house, when there's a squirrel in the yard, when there’s a car in the drive, or whenever he thinks he might have missed 'something' to bark at. As soon as we come out of the house, he gives warning barks just to let everyone know he's 'there' and to warn them of his GREAT presence! So, please take this into consideration when considering FESTUS2 for your home. He loves to be on the couch or wherever his human is, just to cuddle. He's was said to have been a 'couch potato' in two previous foster homes (before coming to mine) but I have not noticed any of those qualities. When he's active he's ACTIVE, and when he just wants to chill... well... he does that in-style too. FESTUS2 does get along with the other dogs in his foster home but has not been tested with cats. He is house trained and crate trained (although will bark if left in the crate by himself). He prefers to sleep in the bed with his human or is just as happy on the couch snuggled under his favorite blanket. FESTUS2 is UTD on shots, heartworm negative/on preventative, and housetrained.
If you have any questions about FESTUS2, please email his foster mom, Christina, at cskrobak@gmail.com.

More about FESTUS2....AL

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
