BIO:

Update:   Shaggy has really started to blossom into a sweet little girl with a personality all her own. She enjoys spending time outside with her foster brothers amd sister, and chasing squirrels. Shaggy is very relaxed for her age, she rarely barks, and is always happy to climb into my lap. We are still working with her fear of loud noises and sudden movements. She is getting more comfortable with life in a family. Shaggy is still not sure of children of any age, including her human foster children. She still runs from them but when they are asleep she likes to curl up in their bed. She does very well with cats, they scare her enough to steer clear. She is slightly crate trained, still cries at night. During the day Shaggy can be trusted out of her crate for short periods without getting into any trouble. She is working on housebreaking, she does very well with the doggy door, but if there is an obstacle in her path that she is unsure of she will not go out.

Shaggy is very much a velcro puppy, she never leaves my side. She just needs a family that will give her time to open up, and this little girl is worth it. Shaggy would probably do best in a home with an older dominant dog to help her build her confidance and to show her the ropes. A home without children, or possibly limited exposure to small children would be best. She would also love for someone to let her sleep in the big bed ;)

Shaggy was rescued from the small community of Lewisburg, TN where she wandered up to a home way out in the country along with her friend Scooby2. They were both very frightened at first but were hungry and that’s how the owners and rescue were able to catch them to get them into rescue. They have come a long way since almost a month ago. They now allow you to catch them and are getting more trusting every day. They will need someone that’s willing to work with her and gain her trust and show her that people are not bad and can be trusted. She is very, very sweet, not aggressive at all to anything or anybody. She just needs work with socialization. She is treat motivated so would do well with good training. She is not leash trained but we are working on that. She really needs a fenced in yard with another well adjusted dog that can show her the ropes. If you are looking for a long coated beauty that has a gentle nature and you’re willing to be patient than this is the little girl for you. She will give you years of love and devotion. Apply today.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
