Abbie has been the best first foster dog you could ask for! She fits in our family made up of two other doxies and my husband and I like she's been here all along. She loves to cuddle, go for long, long walks and play with just about any toy she can get her paws on. Abbie loves to follow you from room to room to make sure you haven't dropped any special treats on the floor! She knows basic commands such as: Sit, Stay, Come, Heel and Lay Down (only when on a bed does she follow that command). Abbie is working on her separation anxiety very well, we still have some bad days with barking off/on throughout the day while she is kenneled and my husband and I are at work. On a positive note, she is kenneled trained because when we're home or it's time for bed she goes right in her kennel and doesn't say a peep. She is an awesome dog and anyone would be LUCKY to have her! She deserves only the best, because she truly is one of the best dogs I've ever been around! Abbie would love to meet you! Are you her future forever home?

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
