BIO:

ABBOTT came from a shelter in AR where he was turned in by a breeder. Abbott is a very sweet and submissive dachshund. He gets along with all the other foster dogs in the house male and female both. He was very shy when he first came here but has since warmed up to where he’ll come to you and let you pick him up but he will still need to be socialized more. That means taken out and introduced to other humans so he knows that we are all kind loving people to our dogs. We can see a big change in just the two weeks we’ve had him. He is not a barker at all, very laid back and just wants love. We did find that he is heartworm positive and will have to go through treatment but that will be done by the 27th of June and he’ll be ready to go to his new home with a 5 mos supply of Heartgard and will need to be retested when that is gone to continue to keep him on it to prevent him from getting those nasty things again. He will have no lasting effects from the worms. He did lose some teeth due to his poor care but he’s able to eat hard dog food with no problem. We have gotten him all fixed up and ready for his new family. He is not leash trained so his new family will have to work with him on that or have a fenced in yard for him to run and play in. He does love to be outside enjoying the warm weather. Please find it in your heart to put in an application for him and give him the home he deserves when he’s ready the end of June. Let his sad story turn into a happy forever one. He thanks you and so do we.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about ABBOTT...NC

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
