Satchel has had a rough time lately and there's a little more tough time in front of him but after that, life will be good - especially if you will give him a home for his senior years.

Poor Satchel was found roaming a while back, taken to the shelter and that time, his folks came to get him. This time, his folks left him at the shelter door. The workers found him standing at the door when they came in. His people didn't even care enough to put him in one of the outdoor runs so he would be safe.

The tough time still ahead will come because he likely will lose all of his teeth when he goes in for a dental. The bright side of that will be the end of pain from abscessed teeth. He'll get all of his shots at that time, also and he'll be ready for his new home. We're just asking a donation from the heart for him but if you can help us with his dental bills, we would be thankful.

Now, about Satchel's personality -
Everybody who has met him has fallen in love with him! He just crawls up on your lap and gives you that look that melts your heart.

Oh, and we forgot something. Sometime back in his life, one of his back legs was badly broken, possibly in more than one place. It wasn't fixed so it doesn't work like it should. He has to drag it but he gets around very well. According to the vet, there is no treatment needed now, but he would have trouble with steps so we need a home with few or no steps.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
