Meet Pierre, a minature, 2 year old long hair blond and red dachshund. Pierre has these big brown eyes that will melt your heart.
Pierre is a bit shy when meeting new people but he bonds seriously with his new caregiver and persons that treat him kind.
This sweet boy lived his life outside for 10 months because his previous owners said he was lifting his leg in the house. When he moved to his foster home he has done very good.
Pierre also lost about 75% of his hair which is caused by a thyroid disorder he was never treated for. We have started Pierre on a thyroid regiment which will continue to improve his health and hopefully grow back his beautiful hair.
Pierre lives in a foster home with male and female dachshunds, rottweilers and cats, he gets along well with everyone! He loves to sleep in the big bed but will also sleep in his doggy bed on the floor or his crate. He is not yet 100% housebroken yet but he is doing fantastic!
Pierre would do best in a home with a fenced in yard, it is so cute to see him running around in circles with a big smile on his face; his life now is so much better than it was in the past, he can now run and play outside but not be fearful of being left outside all day and night.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
