ARLETTE 6 years old (3/24/2006)

NO INVISIBLE FENCING!!!

Arlette was returned to us after a year. Arlette was a puppymill dog so she hasn't learned things that other pets have. She will need a doggie door and a fenced in yard. Also finding her a home in the surrounding state of TN would be best.
Is such a sweet and loving dog.  She is so very timid but slowly comes out every day.  She is quite hesitant to go outside but I ask her daily to come outside with all the other dogs.  She gets along great with both boy and girl dogs.  She has not been introduced to a cat yet nor a small child.  She would probably just sit and look at them!  We have introduced her to squeaky toys and she now likes them and has them all around her.  If anyone squeaks one now, she pops that head up!

She is very laid back and will sit with you all day or by herself.  She is fine in a crate or in a doggie bed.  She is funny in that she will go get her toys or blankets and take them to wherever she is hanging out.

Because Arlette has the shortest little legs it's best she doesn't not go to a home with a lot of stairs or the adopter is willing to carry her up and down. It will take Arlette time to adjust to her new home but this little girl does not have a mean bone in her body.

She would be happy in a multiple dog home or at least one other dog as she does like to take a turn at playing with toys or other dogs.

Arlette is scared of storms and will seek you out when one is coming to climb in your lap, we think a Thunder Shirt would do her a world of good. If you are interested in a little and I mean little girl and watch her come out of her shell and become a pet then Arlette is the one for you. She's sweet, not aggressive and does like to be told she's a good girl, she gets so excited when you call her name.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application. Please note, if this animal is listed as a courtesy for another organization please contact that organization for details about adoption areas and transportation options.

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
