When he arrived in foster care it showed that this little boy was never taught any home-training. He would run like a mad man throughout the house, chase & try to eat the cats, potty wherever & whenever he pleased, jump on furniture, beg for people food, etc. Needless to say this boy needed a lot of work, BUT boy how the hard work has paid off!!! Neo is the life of the party & good for tons of laughs. He will still run & play throughout the house with his foster sister, but in a more calm manner. He still chases the cat, but now it is to play with them instead of eat them (so if you have a fat/lazy cat that will not play back with Neo then he is NOT the dog for your home. Your cat would have to be willing to put him in his place the first time or two & show Neo they are the boss). He is learning that he has to use the doggie door to go potty & gets rewarded for doing so (there is still an occasional accident, but gosh he has come such a long way that we can’t expect miracles overnight). He no longer jumps on the furniture. And when it is the humans dinner time he now knows that he does not get any kind of scrapes & usually goes & finds his bone to chew on. Because he has overcome all his bad manners so quickly we know he is borderline genius. Neo is also a very vocal boy, and you live in an apartment he is probably not the dog for you (of course unless you are willing to take him with you). He does not have separation anxiety at all, but when he sees us outside & he is still in the fence he will bark his little head off until you let him join your fun (on leash of course). He just wants to be where you are, and who can blame him since someone left him behind in a shelter. Neo will still need some reminders when his new forever home chooses him, but he is SO worth it. He is such a funny little guy that will keep you laughing for hours at a time. He loves to ride in the car & is even a perfect gentleman at the vet’s office. He does not like the squirt bottle at all & that is how he has learned to curve all his bad manners. His new forever home will need to remember this & keep the squirt bottle close at hand at times.
If you feel you can give Neo the home he so deserves please fill out an adoption application. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.
If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE. If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options. If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.
More about Neo....TN
Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
