WES came to us from a shelter in KY where we believe he was turned in as a stray. We took him straight to the vet as he had a bit of a cough. After being at the vet's it was discovered that he has a severe heart mummur and requires Enacard 5mg for this daily for the rest of his life. The good news is this is very inexpensive medication. With all that said, WES is just about the sweetest most laid back dachshund I've ever had in my care. He does like to sleep in the big bed and sleep while you are busy but always close to you. He's not aggressive to other dogs but really prefers to be with his human family. If you don't mind giving meds every day than this might be the dog for you. Please contact his foster mom if you'd like more info on WES. He is UTD on all shots, heartworm negative and on Interceptor and Frontline will have his teeth cleaned before going to his new home. WILL YOU BE THAT HOME??

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
