Max is a beautiful boy and was turned in by an owner who no longer had time for him.  Max is a typical doxie---full of energy and looking for boundaries! He learns very quickly and wants to please his people, but he is immature and needs to learn to impulse control and what is/is NOT acceptable behavior! Max is behaving a bit like a teenager right now and testing the boundaries in his new foster home. So, we recommend that Max go to an experienced dachshund owner who will be a strong pack leader, set rules and boundaries, and consistently follow through.  Max seems a little hand shy and acts like he wants to nip, but with correction, he stops immediately. This is typical of puppy behavior but he must learn that this not acceptable. For this reason, we do not recommend he go to a home with children.

Max is doing well with house training, crate training, and learning basic commands. He will thrive in a home able to give him lots of exercise to burn some of his nervous energy away, and give him consistent direction on what he should be doing. With love and patience, Max will turn in to a well behaved young man.

If you have any questions or want more pictures, email his foster mom, THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE!

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If transporting by volunteers through our organization or a commercial transporter, a $35 fee for the Health Certificate must be added to the adoption fee.

Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
