FOSTER HOME Stephanie smburmei@comcast.net  Huntsville, AL

Pez was turned in to a shelter because they had way too many dogs and no longer wanted them.  So, Pez and 8 other mini dachshunds need forever homes! All of these dogs were given names of candy, so we call them the Sugar Babies! Pez and his brother, Brach are hanging out with their new foster family and enjoying getting more one-on-one attention. Pez is sweet, outgoing, happy,  playful and such a love bug! He has a gentle spirit and loves being around his people!  He’ll tolerate being in a crate while you’re gone, but isn’t very happy about it if he knows you’re home! He’ll whine and bark to be near his person, in a crate or behind baby gates. Pez would be fine with children with his gentle temperament, but is very small and LOOONG! So, children must be old enough to understand the importance of careful handling with a small, delicately built dog. Pez shares treats and food with his brother and shows little food/treat possessiveness and has learned how fun toys are!

Pez is kept on a predictable eat/potty schedule at his foster home and is doing beautifully! He was neutered young, so he never learned the “marking” thing---much to his foster mom’s delight. However, potty training is still a new concept, so you must be willing to continue keeping him on a schedule and rewarding him with praise. Pez is sensitive, wants to please his people and will never respond to scolding. Pez loves treats and rawhide bones, so he’s a willing student with a treat in your pocket! Pez has never been an only dog, so he would do well with a brother or sister.  But, with his people-loving personality, he might be fine as an only child in the right circumstance. He’s not been cat tested, but we’re guessing he would be accepting of cats without a problem.

If you have any questions or want more pictures, email his foster mom, Stephanie: smburmei@comcast.net   THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE!

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.  Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If transporting by volunteers through our organization or a commercial transporter, a $35 fee for the Health Certificate must be added to the adoption fee.

Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
