BIO:

PHYLLIS came from one of the worst breeder/hoarder situations that we’ve ever seen. She came in with NO hair from demadex mange. It has taken us 4 mos to get her hair to grow back and she is still missing some hair on her chest and hind quarters. The vet said it may never grow back but we have hopes, if you could have seen her when we picked her up you would have cried at the shape she was in.

BUT don’t cry for PHYLLIS any longer, it’s all behind her and she’s a happy happy girl that loves to play with the younger fosters here. She loves to cuddle up with them when it’s nap time so we say she has to go to a home with another dachshund so she can continue to learn what it’s like to be a pet and not a breeding machine. Our vet did find out that she has a heart murmur that she will need to take pills for the rest of her life and is very inexpensive. We’ve had her 4 mos and the heart murmur has stayed the same and could very well stay that way for the rest of her life. She is housebroken but does need to be kept on a schedule and is of course crate trained.

She is a little hand shy, getting better but will need someone willing to have patience with her and help her to learn what it’s like to be a pet. You can see she wants to but just not sure how to go about it yet, she has come a long way in the 4 mos we’ve had her. Please give PHYLLIS the home she deserves after the live she lived up till 4 mos ago.

The pictures we have posted are about 2 mos old so she has much more hair now than what she had then and we'll post new ones shortly but you'll be able to see how much better she looks when we add them.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
