MEET DARCY!!

Darcy was picked up from a TN shelter after being dumped there by a breeder. We are not sure why the breeder dumped her, but we don’t care either because now we know she is safe & sound & won’t be bred. Darcy is a very scared little girl & she is going to take a special home. She is skittish of her surroundings but learning that all sounds, noises, and movements are not bad. Darcy is going to need a home that has the patience to let her come to them and not rush her. She is not aggressive, just scared. She LOVES LOVES LOVES her doxie foster brother! She follows him everywhere. Because of this we feel she would be best suited in a home with at least one other dog so that she can learn from her new brother or sister. She is not fond of her foster home’s bigger dogs so a home with smaller dogs would be best. She doesn’t mind her foster home’s cats, but will bark & bark at them if allowed. Darcy is potty trained to a doggie door and learned very fast how to use one – only 2 or 3 accidents within her first few days at her foster home. A fenced yard will be required to adopt Darcy, because she does not know how to use a leash yet, and we would hate for her to get off leash & not come back. Also, she would be best suited in a home with older children because the fast movements of smaller kids make her nervous. Darcy is crate trained & feels comfortable in her crate. Her foster home leaves her crate out & open so she can go in & out as she pleases….this makes her very happy. Her favorite treat is CHEESE! Once she gets used to you, you can put her next to you on the couch & you can just feel her relax & appreciate the joys of lounging with you while you watch tv.

If you feel you can give Darcy the home she so deserves please fill out an adoption application.

More about Darcy....AL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
