Bio:
Luke is the sweetest boy ever. He has the softest coat and is an awesome snuggler. We rescued Luke from an animal shelter, b ut his previous owner had been his owner his whole life. She was an elderly lady who needed to give him up as her age was affecting the care she was able to give Luke. She loved him very much and you can tell. He loves attention and he loves, loves, LOVES to snuggle next to you. He is an excellent napping partner. He also loves to investigate, he is very curious and loves to sniff down a scent.
Luke is 8 years young, he really acts about 4 or 5. He is a true case of "Age is just a number". He is excellent on a leash and about 95% house trained. He loves to go on walks and is currently being crate trained. He is fine in the crate when his foster mom goes to work; however, he would prefer not to be in his crate during the night. This is probably because he wants to be in the big bed snuggling! We will experiment with that soon. his only issue is a small one to a patient person: he is fearful of males. He is NOT a biter or growler, he just barks and wont come near. But we have a man who has been working with Luke and with trats and patiences, Luke started to come around him within a week. He needs a home with either just women or men who will be patient for about a week or maybe longer. Luke is in no way aggressive and is more submissive. I think he would do well with one man being constant in his life. Give this sweet boy the chance he deserves, e only wants to be with his furever family!

More about Luke...TN

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
