Lil Bit came from a breeder that gave up his stock when his wife died. She is a very sweet, happy and well behaved lap dog to both men and women. Lil Bit loves attention and would do well as an only child.

Lil Bit has been living in her foster home since January. She lives in a house with 3 cats and a very active 9 year old boy, and Lil Bit has adjusted very well to her given surroundings.  At first she was very interested in the cats and would chase them when they came into sight. After about 2 to 3 weeks the interest died down tremendously. The cats go where they please and Lil Bit no longer pays them any attention... unless they are investigating her food bowl.

She did bark a couple times when she first met our 9 year old son, but after that initial greet she has been very friendly towards him also. She will bark once or twice when someone first comes in the house or knocks on the door but other than that she is a very quiet dog.

She would do very well as an only child but she can get along with other dogs with time.  Recently during her stay at her foster home she had the opportunity to get to know a Black Lab female that was staying at the house for about a week.  The first day she was not a happy camper but during the second day she got along just fine and played in the back yard and enjoyed going on walks with her new temporary friend.  She enjoys chasing chipmunks and squirrels. She loves to have her belly rubbed and enjoys going on walks. She will jump for joy when she sees the leash. Lil Bit is crate and house trained.

Due to the poor care she was given by the breeder she has lost almost all of her teeth except her four canines. Not to worry though, other than softening her kibble with a little water she is not in need of any special treatment. Plus you will laugh at the very unique smile this causes her to have from time to time. If you are looking for a very sweet and lovable companion Lil Bit is the perfect choice for you!  She would like nothing more to do than to sit on your lap and take a nap as you relax on the couch.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
