Cricket is a beautiful shiny red girl with white chest and toes.  She was left at a crowded rural shelter with her friend Gidget when their elderly owner could no longer care for them.  Cricket was very scared and overweight when she arrived, but with a healthy diet, walks, and a secure loving foster home she has blossomed into a healthy, happy girl.  Cricket is well mannered and loves to go on walks and gnaw on chew toys.  She does bark at new people, but once she checks them out she is very friendly.  She has not been around cats much, but when she sees them outside she barks and wants to chase them, so may not do well with cats or other small animals.  Cricket likes to sit with you on the couch, but is also happy curled up in her dog bed with a bone.  She is housebroken and will use a pee pad when nobody is home to take her outside.  Cricket gets along well with other dogs, but does bark at them when she first meets them.  Once they are acquainted everything is fine.  Cricket has not been around children much, but is very friendly with them when we meet them on walks.  She would do best with older children who will respect her space.  Cricket can be shy when she first meets new people, but warms up quickly.
If you are looking for a cute and joyful new friend, Cricket is the girl for you.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
