BIO:

There are just too many good things to say about this little guy! Little Man is easily the sweetest and most affectionate Dachshund I have ever met. He spent the first year of his life with a breeder and lived in a kennel. Despite having no experience living inside he has been a real pleasure to have in the home. He is pretty well house-trained as long as someone remembers to let him out; he doesn’t know how to ask to go out yet. Also, because of his time spent in a kennel, he is totally in awe of all the comforts that being an inside dog brings. You’ve never seen a dog that enjoys a dog bed or a toy as much as this sweetie! Little Man will sleep quietly on the floor on a dog bed but really, really loves to be able to cuddle with you in the big bed; he has an unlimited supply of affection for who ever is lucky enough to adopt him. Watching the delight he shows at being wrapped up in blankets will bring tears to your eyes! He does kennel quietly and will sneak off to rest in his kennel if he’s feeling tired or overwhelmed as it provides a sense of security for him. He is still very much a puppy and will chew whatever he happens to find, so containing him while he is at home alone is a good idea. Little Man does have a few requests for anyone interested in offering him a forever home. He really loves being outside and being able to roam around so either a fenced in yard or daily walks/access to a dog park are a must. Little Man grew up with many dogs so he will need a companion; he is very playful but also very timid and would not pair well with an aggressive dog that might bully him. He has a strong prey drive so he would not do well with a cat in the home. He hasn’t been tested with children but has shown no aggression towards any human or dog. Little Man may look a little funny in his pictures and that’s because when he came to me he had no hair. We were worried that he might have an allergy or genetic baldness, but being kept clean and cool and being fed a high quality dog food has proven to be all that’s needed to set him on the path to being a normal dog. Please email me with any questions. This darling won’t last long!

More about Little Man...NJ

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
