BIO:

HANK came from Hattiesburg, MS where he was turned in by his family when his human daddy died and his human momma could no longer care for him. The rest of the family didn't want him so he was shelter bound. We were contracted to see if we would take him. Why not, we said. He's housetrained, gets along with other dogs as long as they leave his toys and food alone and is great with everyone. HANK likes to even play with the younger fosters here at his foster home. We have crated him when we left home and he's fine with that. We think he has been used to being free-fed and it's taken us a while to get him used to eating his food all in one setting. We can't see that HANK any bad habits and would make a great apartment dog for someone in an apartment because he doesn't require a lot of exercise and is very low key. Please give HANK his last home so he won't be up-rooted again. You will be so happy you did!

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
