One Big Charmer!!! This little boy was somebody's baby,  and how he ended up in the shelter just befuddles me. You can tell he has been loved and adored! And it's no wonder! When he tilts his fuzzy little face down and looks up at you with his special brown and blue eyes your heart just melts. He knows how to win you over, and you don't even mind because he's so so sweet.

Cuddle all day long! He can never get enough. He loves to be in your lap and lays his head up against you in the most precious way. Brushing is something he is used to and does well with. I've even held him in my lap and had him fall asleep while I brushed and stroked his beautiful coat. He does wonderfully with the other dogs and loves to play. He's created a game of tag and even picked a home base to dash back too. He loves being chased and falls on the "home" pillows and rolls around when he makes it back safely. You can tell by his body language he's so disappointed when he doesn't get home, but after just a few seconds, he starts the game again. Maxwell also loves going for walks and does really well on the leash. He's very friendly and accepting of other dogs and people that come for a visit. I found that even though Maxwell likes the big bed and loves being near, he can get uncomfortable or too hot and gets on and off through the night. I have a crate in the room with me that he sleeps in and does just fine. Potty training has been something we have been working on,  and I think he's just being a little lazy as he does fine for a while then slacks off again. Don't worry, he'll get there soon.

I can't think of a more adorable addition to any family and I know he is ready for his "forever family" to take him home.

There is one very special note about Maxwell. He has tested low Heart Worm Positive. The decision has been made to treat him each month for a year with "Heart Guard" and then retest him. This is something that the adopting family must consent to and promise to fulfill as part of the adoption process. The Heart Guard tablets will be provided by All American Dachshund Rescue.

More about Maxwell....MA

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
