FOSTER HOME (NAME, CITY & STATE, ZIP, EMAIL)  DeeAnn Jones, Beaufort, SC  --- DeesDawgs@aol.com

Lucky is a wonderful pet who loved to go for walks.  She is friendly and loving.

She loves to sleep in bed with you and under the covers by your feet and in the mornings she has to go potty 1st thing.  She is kenneled if we leave for more than 2 hours and we ensure she has gone potty even if we are only going for two hrs because she may have accidents.  I did work full time and she was kenneled up to 6 Hrs a day until the kids came home and let her out.  She does not like it when you leave, she does not bark but she starches up her bed linens very bad so we buy end of year beach towels on clearance (the 3.99 ones) from Disney.com for her kennel because it will be in shreds after about two weeks so after washing each day and her shredding the towel time to get a new one.  She does not eat table food, when it has been given to her it makes her tummy real upset, but she does like to beg at the table.  What she does love to eat is baby Carrots, Broccoli, strawberries, raspberries, cucumbers (without the skin), peas.  Her dog food is Iams Dog Food (Green Bag) and each time she goes potty outside she gets half an Iams (small) hard dog Biscuits other treats with dyes and additives upset her tummy. So other treats for her is the veggies and fruits she loves.  Everyone once in a while she would get chicken breast cut up but not from the table we would prepare it in her dog bowl and she would get steak bones (she loves those J).

She loves to be by you if you are sitting she is lying on the back of the couch or right next to you keeping warm.

I would recommend that she be with a family with older kids (13 or older) she is not mean to little kids but she gets uncomfortable and will walk away.  She does not like kids to pick her up she may growl.  But with her owners she is fine. Like I mentioned unless the doorbell rings or someone is walking to close to the house she does not bark and you can quite her but saying her name in a stern voice.

She loves running on the beach and like sunbathing on the grass or porch but only for a little while then she needs her air conditioning.

Lucky has had some dental surgery and more than a few teeth removed, she hates to get her teeth brushed but she does it, does not care much for getting her nails clipped but she will behave.

She is loving, with a wonderful disposition and loves to be with people and hates to be alone.  Due to her not being able to have certain shots she can not be boarded, so if traveling you must either take her with you or find a friend or neighbor to care for her while you travel.

Is Not Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
