Look at that adorable face! Meadow is a beautiful chocolate and tan with perfect markings. Everyone that meets her can't help but comment on how gorgeous she is and how sweet! Meadow has not even made it out of puppyhood yet she has had enough sadness to last her a lifetime. This tiny girl was dumped at a high kill shelter along with several other dachshunds, probably by a breeder.  Meadow was severely underweight and had large wounds on the side of her body. So to say the least, when she came into foster care, this sweet, sweet girl didn't know who to trust! Who could hurt this precious girl?

However, now that Meadow had had almost a month to warm up, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! This precious girl has a very sweet spirit and is just a doll! She gets along great with other dogs so it is a must that she go to a home with at least 1 other dog that is very friendly and will openly invite her into their home.

Her wounds are completely healed and the scars have all but vanished . The puppy in her has really begun to shine.  She LOVES toys and her favorite thing to do is to empty out the "toy box" and to prance around with one of the stuffed animals. She even has a favorite stuffed wiener dog (that I will send with her to her new home) that she carries around everywhere with her. She even will give it kisses and bring it out to lay in the sun with her.  She rolls around in the grass outside and sprints back and forth with the other dogs. Then when she is all tired out, she is ready to snuggle up to her foster mom!

She is still unsure of new people and new situations but LOVES her person...she just wants to follow her foster mom around all the time. She enjoys belly rubs and in just a few weeks time, has really become a very affectionate and sweet girl.  She needs to go to a home with a person who will be dedicated to spending time with her and will understand that she might be scared at first. She was scared of her foster dad but now she snuggles right up to him as long as he is sitting down! She even goes up to our neighbors to say hello. Meadow is really making progress!

Meadow has never been introduced to leashes before now. We are working with her on this and are confident she will learn this just as well as she is learning everything else! But she MUST go to a home with a fenced in yard.  She just loves having her free time in the yard (running, sniffing, rolling around with her toys, sun bathing, etc.) and I think she would miss it!

Meadow came to us almost completely potty trained! She does not know how to ask out yet but if kept on a regular schedule and encouraged with treats, she almost never will have an accident in the house! Discipline will never work well with Meadow because of her timidness. She responds very well to a soft approach and encouragement to good behavior. However, she does know the word "no" and responds quickly to it.

There aren't words enough to describe the deep satisfaction of watching Meadow learn that life can be happy!! She has quite the personality and its a joy to watch! She needs a home that will not get discouraged and understands why she is scared. If this is you, you will be greatly rewarded! I wish I could better describe what a keeper this girl is..personality, spunk, deep devotion, and affection all rolled into one (not to mention that cute face of hers!) Meadow is a real sweetheart and will make a wonderful and loving addition to the right family!!

*** Check out the video of Meadow below! Please pardon the barking doxie, he's one of mine and loves to get vocal when he plays!

More about Meadow...NC

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
