Here is what we know, Kayla's owner went into the hospital for a surgery and did not survive.  Apparently he had few friends and family, but left everything to a woman who hardly knew him.  When she went to his home, she found 19 dachshunds!  The local humane society stepped up to care for all of them!  After a few weeks, they came in on a Monday morning, to find Kayla with 3 newborn pups.  Sadly one had already died.  They called AADR right away, and we got them in a warm foster home.  But sadly another puppy still did not survive.

Here is what we suspect:
The vet says Kayla was likely bred every heat of her life.  He thinks she is roughly 5 years old, but it's not been an easy life.

Kayla is so grateful to have a warm lap to sit on!  She is only learning to play outside.  She is quite reliable in the house training dept.  I don't think she went outside before though.  But she is doing so well.  She LOVES stuffed animals, particularly the Aflac duck... loves to carry it around and make it say "Aflac...Aflaaac".  She wags her tail and so pleased the whole time.  Regular meals delight her!  I also believe her name in her previous life, was Piper, or pepper, as we were calling our cat, Pepa one morning and she came running with delight.  This has happened enough times now, that it's plan the p sound means something to her.
Kayla, deserves a home where she is the speical one.  She has a deep loving heart, longing to please!  She loves to sleep on the big bed!
She has been a loving mom, over and over, it's time she was rewarded by someone loving her.  Kayla, likes kids, men, women and other dogs.  She doesn't mind cats either, she'll chase if they run, but if they won't, she can walk right past!
She'll need time to get her girlish figure back, and to settle down and believe she will be safe in a new enviroment, but she could be the MOST devoted companion ever!

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about Kayla...CT

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
