BIO: Pebbles came from North Carolina when her owner had to move and could not take her dogs with her. She has been with us for a month now, and she is wonderful! She is sweet, cuddly, and absolutely thrives on attention and play. Everyone she meets loves Pebbles. She can be a bit shy around men when she first meets them and is not fond of little kids. She doesn’t show aggression, but they make her uncomfortable.
Pebbles has a very high prey drive. She loves her walks and does nicely until she sees a squirrel, chipmunk, bunny, or bird, then she barks and goes into hunter mode, and she is strong. She walks 1/2 a mile 3 times a day - morning, afternoon, and evening along with shorter walks. She doesn’t like to potty in the yard but rather takes care of her business when she’s walking.
Pebbles has done lots of local car trips and travels well in the car. When home alone she has a pen area in which she stays. She enjoys going there for a little alone time even when we are home. She is allowed on the furniture with us and is learning to use her ramps.
Pebbles is very energetic and so much fun!! She especially likes playing with her bunny toy. She does a happy dance when she sees any of us and then zooms around in circles. This girl is a special little lady!
Our must-haves for beautiful Pebbles include:
- A fenced yard
- Someone who could be home a lot would be good for her; no more than 4-6 hours for the new owner to be gone
- No apartments, high-rises, or condos (anything with shared walls) for possible barking and bothering the neighbors
- Needs to be the only dog because she likes all the attention
- Younger, active family that can keep up with her
If you meet these requirements, then please go to our website and complete our online adoption application.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
