Rico, who used to be known as Raisin, is the most adorable mini dachshund in the world, just ask him! He looks like he should belong to an Italian supermodel, which has earned him his nickname, Giorgio. Rico has the cutest cowlick on the back of his neck. He gets along with other dogs, male and females. He loves cats, which sometimes doesn't suit the cats! He goes on walks and rides in the car. He'll probably need a little refresher work on his housetraining but he will do fine with a fenced yard.
He loves to play and to chase balls and sleep on the couch and, of course, snuggle in the human bed. He is a great cuddler and loves people of all ages. Rico enjoys having chew toys. He would enjoy living with someone with the energy to play with him.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
