Meet Tucker, a unique 5-year old Black and Tan Standard Wirehaired dachshund. Tucker weighs close to 30 pounds which is right for a standard size dachshund. Tucker was turned in to rescue the first time because his family started having children, and of course, the dog had to go. Then he was surrendered a second time because he didn’t get along with the new puppy in the family.
He has done great with the Dachshunds, Rottweilers and 2 cats in his foster home, of course after proper introductions. His best friend has turned out to be his 1 year old male foster brother, who happens to be a Rottweiler!!
Tucker is a very quiet and calm boy; he likes to follow foster mom around the house and prefers to keep her within eye contact, but he is very well behaved when left alone. He is housebroken, crate trained and is allowed full run of the house. He has been allowed to sleep in the big bed but during the night he gets down to go to sleep in his bed in his crate.
Tucker tends to be a little shy and sometimes boisterous when he first meets new people, but a calm and assertive personality wins him over quickly. He doesn’t want to be the boss, but in his last home he developed a habit of barking at non-assertive humans for fun so he was perceived as being aggressive.
Tucker is up to date on all shots, heartworm negative, on Heartguard & Frontline.
Will you be the one to give this very sweet boy the home he so richly deserves? Please email any questions to Tucker’s foster mom and don’t forget to ask to see more pictures, she has plenty!! Online applications can be submitted at www.ssdr.org.
WE WILL NOT SHIP OUR DOGS BY PLANE......... Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. We will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to verify all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.
More about TUCKER...GA
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
