Meet VELVET and hear her sad tale. Her family had her for 13 yrs, she gave them many years of devotion then they took her to a vet clinic in Hattiesburg, MS and left her there, no reason given. The vet clinic had her for a whole month and when they found out that the owners were not coming back for her THEY dumped her at the shelter. Did NOT try to find her a home or didn't contact rescue. Lucky for VELVET the shelter had connections with rescue and they contacted us to take her. She came with a severe UTI that was not treated at the vet clinic.
NOW about VELVET. She is VERY sweet, no problem what so ever. Doesn't bark, and gets along with all other dogs just wants her nice warm doggie bed and blanket. If you are looking for a companion that is low-key please consider giving VELVET a forever home for however long she has. She is healthy other than the severe UTI that she came in with. She has even had a dental and several teeth were pulled but is UTD on shots and on heartworm prevention, Please consider VELVET you won't be sorry she's won her temp-foster mom's heart over already and we are sure she will the perm-foster mom will feel the same about her.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
