BIO UPDATE FROM THE LITTLE LADY HERSELF (9/24/23): Hello, my name is Sasha, and I'm looking for my furever family! Foster Mom says I am sweet, loving, and eager to please, and I have a lot of spunk despite my age. I am 10, but you would never know that! I am great with other dogs. I love my foster brother! A couple of my favorite things are car rides and walks! I love any attention, especially getting my belly rubbed. I can't wait to settle in my furever home and be a couch bum!
BIO: Sasha is a 10-year-old super spunky female with a red dapple smooth coat. She weighs about 15.5 pounds. She came to us from middle Tennessee when the family did not want her after her owner passed away.
Sasha is a sweet girl, friendly, happy, and gets along with other dogs, except she may have a problem with other alpha females because, you see, she is alpha. It would be best for her to go to a home with a small male adult dog. A home with a submissive female might be ok. You just cannot let her think she is going to be above the other female in the pack. She currently resides with an 8-year-old male beagle mix. They have become great friends.
This little one loves to sunbathe. She will stretch out on a dog bed or pillow and watch the outside or lay outside on the deck. She enjoys scouring the yard for any new scents that may have been left there. She enjoys short walks. Sasha likes to cuddle and absolutely loves any kind of blanket. She will burrow and play with the blanket then take a power nap with it. Sasha likes to chew on small Nylabones. She of course loves all treats and food. She is the kindest girl and has never had any food or treat aggression. She loves to ride in the car and meet new people!
Sasha has a scar all the way down her back from a chemical burn, probably from the application of a cheap flea and tick medicine but this does not change the fact that she is one red haired beauty!
Our must-haves for sweet Sasha include:
- A fenced yard
- A male or submissive female sibling to keep her company if you work
- Someone who can be home more often than not because she enjoys humans
- No apartments, high-rises, or condos since she will bark when she sees or hears things
If your family is looking for another family member and you meet all these requirements, then please give Sasha the home she deserves. Sasha is the bestest girl and we can't wait for her to find her furever home!
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
