Looking for an adopter in Florida or the surrounding states.

BIO:  Hi, folks! My name is Lovie! My foster mom thinks my name is very fitting because when I am in your arms, I love to be loved on. But, right now, I am still very scared of everyone, so you will not find it easy to pick me up. You see, I was surrendered by a breeder, so I have never lived in a home or been exposed to loving hands. For five years, I’ve only known life in a kennel environment with other small dogs.

Don’t feel sorry for me. AADR is going to find me a forever home with a wonderful family that has LOTS and LOTS of patience. First, I will need to learn to trust you. Then I will need to learn that other people (your friends and also strangers) are good, too. It will be a slow process, but I am so worth it!

I have been fully vetted. I lost my lower canines and quite a few other teeth. The good news is that I still have my upper canines, although I could lose them in the future. I MUST have annual dentals in hopes of keeping my remaining teeth.

My right rear paw has been missing since birth. In the house, I walk just fine on all four limbs. My right leg works like a pirate’s peg leg. It’s as if you had no foot but walk on your ankle joint. It does not cause me pain, but I should not be taken on long walks. BTW, when I run around the house with my foster siblings, I run on my three good legs, holding up my short leg.

Our must-haves for gorgeous Lovie include:

  • A secure area attached to the home where Lovie can safely potty is a MUST
  • Someone who is experienced with unsocialized dogs and has LOTS of patience
  • Another small dog to learn from and help with transitioning
  • Lovie is small, but her bark is loud, so no apartments or condos (anything with a shared wall)
  • Someone who is home a lot would be great, too

My foster mom will be VERY picky about my forever family. I am tiny and cute, but I will not be an easy adoption. She really wants you to have experience with unsocialized dogs. She wants my next home to be my forever home!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.
